Vocabulary Words
We will have vocabulary words for either Social Studies or Science depending on the unit. The students will get the words the first day of the unit and they will be quizzed on them about a week to a week and a half later depending on the length of the unit. These quizzes are matching.
Forces and Motion Vocabulary

Position – the location of an object relative to another object (the reference point); example: above, below, beside, behind, ahead of

Direction – the course or path an object is moving and can be determined by reading a compass using the terms north, east, south, and west

Speed – a measure of how fast an object is moving

Force – a push or pull

Magnetism – a non-contact force created through magnets

Gravity – a non-contact force that attracts other objects to each other

Friction – a contact force that opposes motions between two surfaces that are touching

Balanced Forces – produce no change in the motion of an object

Unbalanced Forces – produce a change in the motion of an object

Object at Rest – If an unbalanced force acts on one, the object will move in the direction of the force

Object in Motion – If an unbalanced force acts on one, it will change the motion of the object

Mass – the amount of matter in an object

Texture – the feel or consistency of a surface

Weight – the force that gravity exerts
